SUMMARY:The Currys
DESCRIPTION:The Currys return to Natalie’s to celebrate the release of their 4th full length album\, Keepers. \nThe Currys have been staking their claim within the Americana music scene since 2013\, when vocalist/guitarist Tommy Curry quit his teaching job and moved to Charlottesville\, Virginia\, to join the harmony-based folk-rock outfit newly formed by brother Jimmy Curry (vocals\, guitar) and cousin Galen Curry (vocals\, bass). The band\, who cut their teeth playing the oyster bars and listening rooms of the Florida Panhandle\, has since written and released two full-length albums: their studio debut Follow (2014)\, called “eye-opening\, but warmly familiar” by Earmilk\, and whose title track is “one of the most beautiful pieces of music I’ve ever heard” (Todd Moe of NCPR); and sophomore effort West of Here (2016)\, with its “tight-as-a-rubber-band” harmonies and “infectious” songwriting (PopMatters). \nFor their third album\, This Side of the Glass (2019)\, The Currys teamed up with producer/guitarist Sam Whedon and engineer Stewart Myers (Jason Mraz\, Parachute) to map new terrain. As ever\, the band’s three-part family harmonies provide the organic\, lived-in feel of roots music\, but the album aspires to a greater variety of form and orchestration than earlier releases. The songs defy any neat categorization: the country nostalgia of “Gulf Coast Home” complements the folk-pop sensibility of “Pin You Down\,” while the guitars and gang vocals of “Soon Enough” pay unmistakable homage to Paul Simon’s “Graceland.” \nLyrically\, This Side of the Glass explores questions of perspective\, an apt consideration for a band featuring three songwriters. Each Curry offers his take on the time-worn threads of life and love\, contributing to the album’s tapestry of introspection and social commentary. DESCRIPTION: Like only the most insightful songwriters\, Austin Plaine draws intense emotion from the subtlest moments. On his sophomore album Stratford\, the Minnesota-bred\, Nashville-based musician shapes his lyrical storytelling with both precision and pure feeling\, capturing every nuance of lost love and longing and fractured innocence. And while Stratford is steeped in a warm nostalgia\, Plaine instills each song with a quiet optimism that speaks to bravely moving forward\, even in troubled times.\n\nProduced by Jay Foote and mixed by Steve Vealey (M. Ward\, Phoenix\, Hurray for the Riff Raff) at the legendary Electric Lady Studios\, Stratford arrives as the follow-up to Plaine’s self-titled debut—a 2015 release that earned comparisons to Bob Dylan and Conor Oberst from Baeble Music. In a departure from that more stripped-down effort\, Plaine assembled a full-fledged band who recorded in an apartment in Brooklyn\, infusing Stratford with a homegrown feel and loose yet kinetic energy. \nTaking its title from the Flatbush street where the album came to life\, Stratford offers a classically arranged take on folk-rock that illuminates the intimacy of Plaine’s vocal work and the graceful candor of his lyrics. From track to track\, the 27-year-old singer/guitarist reveals a refined sense of songcraft that he partly credits to moving to Nashville from his hometown of Minneapolis in early 2017. “Being part of a whole community of songwriters\, you realize there’s a lot of different directions you can take a song\,” he says. “It’s really opened me up as a writer\, and it’s also helped me to hone in on every word of every line that I write.” \nWith its abundance of indelible images—night trains and the Northern Lights\, backyard camping and drive-in romance—Stratford also bears a richness of detail that hints at the literary and cinematic influence behind Plaine’s songwriting. “People tend to think my songs are personal because I sing in the first person\, but often it’s very observational for me\,” says Plaine\, who names Alexandre Dumas and Henry Miller among his inspirations. “I’m learning to understand new philosophies of life\, love\, and death”\, attributing his passion for reading has helped him attain a better sense of his surroundings. \nProving the emotional depth of Plaine’s artistry\, Stratford opens with the wistful reminiscence of “Something More” (a steel-guitar-laced track “like a movie I’ve seen before / way back when / we were something more” sings Plaine in the chorus)\, then slips into the bittersweet\, burned-but-not-broken ache of “What Kind of Fool” (a rollicking\, country-tinged number co-written with Sixpence None the Richer’s Leigh Nash and Stephen Wilson). Later\, on “Lucky Ones”\, Plaine presents a more hopeful portrait unconditional love\, with singer/songwriter Soren Bryce lending her vocals to the chorus’s bright and beautiful harmonies. \n \nMichael Dunton\, known professionally as M.Dunton\, is a singer-songwriter and guitarist out of East Nashville\, TN. His work combines flavors of indie rock and alt-country\, with a unique and timeless approach to songwriting that allows him to exist in a world of his own. He was born in San Francisco and grew up in Coeur d’Alene\, Idaho\, where he discovered two primary loves at an early age: music and running. He grew up running the trails of Northern Idaho with embryonic formations of songs in his head and spent his teenage summers working as a rafting guide in Missoula\, Montana\, where he was free to explore nature by day and write songs on the Lozeau Quartz trestle bridge by night. After graduating from Boise State University\, he left the Northwest for Nashville to pursue his passion for the guitar. While working as a hired gun guitarist\, he continues to create his own lane as an artist. “I write music to express sensations I cannot put into words\, arranged around songs that I can grow old with and sing forever.” He collaborated with Steven Cooper and Owen Beverly of Indianola on his debut releases\, including his 2023 Lonely Neighbors EP. He is the last of the Full Grown Men and Roots Rock Royalty. \nA native of Hattiesburg\, Wilder’s 1986 debut album\, It Came from Nashville\, was named one of the 50 Best Southern Rock Albums of All-Time by Paste Magazine in 2018.  Webb was honored to participate in Shemekia Copeland’s recent Grammy nominated LP “Uncivil War” co-writing and performing on the track “She Don’t Wear Pink.”  Webb’s engaging personality led him to become one of America’s first Satellite DJs on XM Radio.  He’s now a DJ and the host of the Americana Countdown show on WMOT radio/Nashville as well as continuing his three decade career as an Electrifying Artist on stages worldwide.  His newest and 11th release is “Night Without Love” on Landslide Records. \nFood & Bar: Our full food and drink menu will be available before and during the show.

DESCRIPTION:The eighth full-length from singer/songwriter Jason Eady\, To The Passage Of Time first took shape in a frenetic burst of creativity back in the doldrums of quarantine. Over the course of a three-day period last August\, the Fort Worth\, Texas-based musician wrote more than half of the album\, locking himself in his bedroom and emerging only when he felt completely burnt out. “I went in thinking I was going to write just one song—but then the songs kept coming\, and I didn’t want to break the spell\,” he recalls. “I’d go to sleep with the guitar by the bed\, pick it back up when I woke up the next morning\, and do it all again. I’d never really experienced anything like that before.” \nWith its nuanced exploration of aging and loss and the fragility of life\, To The Passage Of Time arrives as the Mississippi-bred artist’s most lyrically complex and compelling work to date. As Eady reveals\, the album’s understated power stems in part from the intentionality of the recording process\, which involved enlisting Band of Heathens’ Gordy Quist as producer and gathering many of Eady’s favorite musicians he’s played with over the years (including Noah Jeffries on mandolin and fiddle\, Mark Williams on upright bass and cello\, and Geoff Queen on Dobro\, pedal steel\, and lap steel). “I really love egoless players—people who know how to serve the song\,” notes Eady\, who recorded at The Finishing School in Austin and made ample use of the studio’s goldmine of vintage gear. “We started every song with just me on guitar\, and if someone felt like they had a part to add\, they had to come forward and say what they heard there. Everything was built from the ground up\, and because of that there’s no filler—nobody playing to show off or take up space.” \nOn the album’s exquisite centerpiece “French Summer Sun”—a devastating epic astoundingly captured in the very first take—Eady shares one of his most riveting pieces of storytelling yet. “My grandfather fought at the Battle of Anzio in Italy in World War II\, and a few years ago on tour I went to visit the beach where the battle took place\,” says Eady. “I was struck by how small the beach was—I realized that if my grandfather had made one wrong move he would’ve been killed\, and I wouldn’t be standing there thinking those thoughts. I ended up writing this song about how when someone dies in war\, it isn’t just killing that person: it’s killing the generations of people who would have come from them.” Building to a shattering plot twist in its final moments\, “French Summer Sun” drifts between its somberly sung chorus and spoken-word verses\, attaining an unlikely transcendence as Eady sheds equally poignant light on the horror of war and the ephemeral beauty of everyday life. \nLooking back on the making of To The Passage Of Time\, Eady points to such unexpected moments as the recording of the album-opening “Nothing On You.” “Apart from my guitar\, the only two instruments on that song are cello and steel guitar—which is a combination I’d never heard before\, and gave it a whole new character that took my breath away\,” he says. But for the most part\, Eady achieved a rare outcome in the album’s production: a direct expression of his deep-rooted and highly specific vision. “I write my songs on acoustic guitar\, so sometimes in the studio things take different turns and end up not really matching with what you had in your head\,” says Eady. “But because of the approach we took with this album\, there’s hardly anything that came out different from what I’d envisioned. SUMMARY:The Ocean Blue with Tallies - SOLD OUT!
DESCRIPTION:The Ocean Blue arrived as the 1980s drew to close\, and their debut record on the famed Sire Records label in 1989 seemed to summarize the best of the passing musical decade. With the release of The Ocean Blue\, the band of four teenagers from Hershey\, Pennsylvania quickly achieved widespread acclaim and radio & MTV airplay with top 10 Modern Rock/College Radio hits like Between Something and Nothing\, Drifting\, Falling\, and Vanity Fair. They followed their debut with the dreamy and atmospheric Cerulean\, which includes perhaps their most beloved song\, Ballerina Out of Control.\n\nTheir third Sire release and highest charting pop album Beneath the Rhythm and Sound featured the single Sublime\, with a video of the band in the sublime landscape of Iceland. The band’s fourth major label album on Mercury/PolyGram\, See The Ocean Blue\, delved into wider 60s and 70s stylings but with the band’s 80s DNA peeking through.\nThe band left the majors in the late 90s and released several independent records in the ensuing decade\, including 2000’s Davy Jones Locker and 2004’s Waterworks.  In 2013\, after a long hiatus and much anticipation\, the band released their first full length record in a decade\, Ultramarine\, on Korda Records\, a label cooperative the band helped launch that same year. The record was a welcome return for both long-time fans of the band and a younger generation of like-minded fans\, and it garnered widespread praise as one of their very best albums. That young man would go on to have an unimaginably profound impact on music\, becoming internationally recognized as folk blues pioneer Lead Belly. DESCRIPTION:Join us for an honest discussion about the physical and mental demands of being in the music industry\, and the resources available to help music professionals care for themselves. \nMany music professionals are self-employed or often work on contract basis. There are many excellent resources to support music professionals\, both at home and on tour\, to sustain mental\, physical\, financial\, and social well-being. This panel will be an opportunity to hear from musicians about some of the needs to sustain a career in music\, and to hear from key organizations about the resources to support music professionals. \nThe panel will feature insights from MusiCares representative\, Robert Taylor Jr\, who will share their data on the state of wellness in music professionals as well as strategies and resources they offer to support those in the industry. He will be joined by local musicians to be announced as well. \n— \nMusiCares helps the humans behind music because music gives so much to the world. Offering preventive\, emergency\, and recovery programs\, MusiCares is a safety net supporting the health and welfare of the music community. DESCRIPTION:The Wildwoods are an enchanting Folk/Americana trio based in Lincoln\, Nebraska\, whose flowing songwriting tandem has been praised by Paste Magazine as “focused and charmingly human”. The Wildwoods’ delicate melodies and descriptive lyrics come from nature\, love\, experiences from the road\, and growing up in Nebraska. \nIn 2016\, 2017\, 2018\, 2021\, and 2022 The Wildwoods were nominated by the Omaha Arts and Entertainment Awards as a top Americana/Folk artist in Nebraska\, and in 2022 they were named “Best Band” by the Lincoln Journal Star’s ‘Lincoln’s Choice Awards’. The group’s musical momentum continues into 2023 by placing as a top 3 finalist\, with more than 1\,000 submissions from around the world\, in the Gems in The Rough contest\, hosted by popular YouTube channel GemsOnVHS. DESCRIPTION:Secret Studio Presents a very special happening hour featuring performances by Mukiss and Adam Newman. Reservations are highly recommended for this free show!\n\nAbout Mukiss:\nMukiss is the dreamy solo project of Caeleigh Featherstone. She released her debut single under the name Mukiss in 2019\, titled ‘Bruise Blue’. Since then\, she has released her first EP ‘Happy Face’ in 2020\, and several other singles over the years. Caeleigh is also a member of the Columbus-based indie-rock band Saintseneca. Mukiss’ music can be described as happy-sad songs.\n\nAbout Adam Newman:\nJoin local singer-songwriter and pianist Adam Newman as he performs songs from last year’s Sissy EP as well as songs from his forthcoming album Build A Fire.\nAfter fronting the local band The Gospel from 2000-2006\, Newman found himself in NYC and eventually in Nashville\, working at Blackbird Studios after finishing studying at the Recording Workshop in Chillicothe\, Ohio.\n\nIt was there where the seeds for his 2015 EP Get Out The Dark were planted\, which saw Newman working with legendary producer and engineer Kevin Killen ( Bowie\, Kate Bush\, U2) and guitarist Gerry Leonard (Bowie\, Rufus Wainwright).\n\nFor 2022’s Sissy\, Newman enlisted Keith Hanlon of Secret Studio in Columbus\, OH to handle the recording while enlisting bandmates from his earlier band The Gospel to help bring the songs to life. In November\, he’ll be releasing a new record\, recorded again at Secret Studio\, titled Build A Fire.\n\nAbout Secret Studio:\nLocated in the heart of Franklinton\, Secret Studio is a recording studio\, arts space and concert venue owned and operated by local artists – poet Amy Turn Sharp and musician and audio engineer Keith Hanlon.

Can ya dig it? \n \nIMBER SOLIS: Artist-to-watch Imber Solis is a Vintage Pop Soul singer based in Columbus\, Ohio that has been steadily on the rise since 2021\, performing all over central Ohio and recently smashing a performance at the Hard Rock Café at Myrtle Beach for “Women Who Rock Wednesdays”.   She’s released 11 songs including a Christmas EP and 7 singles\, and her latest venture is with the Billboard charting producer Phinestro\, releasing the vintage-soul inspired song “Keep it Simple”\, and will soon be releasing the soulful and introspective ballad titled “The Looking Glass”\, which echoes her passions about the importance of mental health and will be on her album of the same name. Imber is backed by some of the best musicians Ohio has to offer with co-writer Scott Lee on keys\, Jesse Marquardt on percussion\, John Clendening on bass\, Mike Folker on guitar\, and Aaron Jude on sax. \n \nTHE DIGS: are a band from Columbus\, OH specialized in performing early Rock n Roll and Classic R&B music. Formed in 2013\, The Digs have been thrilling audiences around central Ohio and beyond with their high energy performances and classic sounds. The Digs are comprised of a veteran group of musicians including Bart Jenkins on lead vocals\, upright and electric bass\, Greg Sharp on electric guitar\, Fred Gablick on saxophone and Troy Kunkler on drums. \nFood & Bar: Our full food and drink menu will be available before and during the show.
