Like a low rent Todd Rundgren\, Scott plays and sings all the parts on his latest release (The Fifth Album)\, and will be joined onstage by longtime friend/bandmate Patrick Kenney\, playing songs across his 5 album catalog. \nLocated in the heart of Franklinton\, Secret Studio is a recording studio\, arts space and concert venue owned and operated by local artists – poet Amy Turn Sharp and musician and audio engineer Keith Hanlon. \nRESERVATIONS: Reservations are strongly encouraged for our free Happy Hour Shows! Over the last few years The Guitar Company is a project that’s taken on a life of its own. Put together for a one-time festival event\, it has grown into a local favorite featuring fantastic musicianship and vocals. Rick Collura\, John Boerstler and Michael McGannon share guitar duties\, with John Borchard on pedal steel guitar. Add Phil Clark on keyboards and vocals\, Aaron Scott on drums\, and Phil Maneri on bass\, the band becomes an unbeatable combination of talents. You can count on something new and special with each performance. \nFood & Bar: Our full food and drink menu will be available before and during the show. The band\, who cut their teeth playing the oyster bars and listening rooms of the Florida Panhandle\, has since written and released two full-length albums: their studio debut Follow (2014)\, called “eye-opening\, but warmly familiar” by Earmilk\, and whose title track is “one of the most beautiful pieces of music I’ve ever heard” (Todd Moe of NCPR); and sophomore effort West of Here (2016)\, with its “tight-as-a-rubber-band” harmonies and “infectious” songwriting (PopMatters). \nFor their third album\, This Side of the Glass (2019)\, The Currys teamed up with producer/guitarist Sam Whedon and engineer Stewart Myers (Jason Mraz\, Parachute) to map new terrain. As ever\, the band’s three-part family harmonies provide the organic\, lived-in feel of roots music\, but the album aspires to a greater variety of form and orchestration than earlier releases. The songs defy any neat categorization: the country nostalgia of “Gulf Coast Home” complements the folk-pop sensibility of “Pin You Down\,” while the guitars and gang vocals of “Soon Enough” pay unmistakable homage to Paul Simon’s “Graceland.” \nLyrically\, This Side of the Glass explores questions of perspective\, an apt consideration for a band featuring three songwriters. Each Curry offers his take on the time-worn threads of life and love\, contributing to the album’s tapestry of introspection and social commentary. Likewise\, each in turn ruminates on the paradox faced by every performing songwriter: how to balance one’s roles as both the author of stories and the object of storytelling. This Side of the Glass is an insightful and satisfying new chapter from a band with many more stories to tell. \nFood & Bar: Our full food and drink menu will be available before and during the show. \n  URL:https://nataliesgrandview.com/events/the-currys/ LOCATION:Natalie’s Grandview – Charlie’s Stage\, 945 King Avenue\, Columbus\, OH\, 43212\, United States CATEGORIES:Charlie’s Stage ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/jpeg:https://nataliesgrandview.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/Curryspromo1.jpg END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART;TZID=America/New_York:20231013T171500 DTEND;TZID=America/New_York:20231013T171500 DTSTAMP:20240118T110314 CREATED:20230926T175848Z LAST-MODIFIED:20230926T175848Z UID:129774-1697217300-1697217300@nataliesgrandview.com SUMMARY:The Mezzanines DESCRIPTION:The Mezzanines perform a variety of songs that straddle classic country\, western swing & jazz. Every Friday in October. 5:15-7:00pm. \nThe Mezzanines are David Vaubel (vocals\, guitar / the Randys) Maxwell Button (drums\, vocals / the Moonbats) Nate Smith (bass / Angela Perley) Tony Brock (piano\, vocals / the Moonbats)  \nRESERVATIONS: Reservations are strongly encouraged for our free Happy Hour Shows! Dunton DESCRIPTION: Like only the most insightful songwriters\, Austin Plaine draws intense emotion from the subtlest moments. On his sophomore album Stratford\, the Minnesota-bred\, Nashville-based musician shapes his lyrical storytelling with both precision and pure feeling\, capturing every nuance of lost love and longing and fractured innocence. And while Stratford is steeped in a warm nostalgia\, Plaine instills each song with a quiet optimism that speaks to bravely moving forward\, even in troubled times.\n\nProduced by Jay Foote and mixed by Steve Vealey (M. Ward\, Phoenix\, Hurray for the Riff Raff) at the legendary Electric Lady Studios\, Stratford arrives as the follow-up to Plaine’s self-titled debut—a 2015 release that earned comparisons to Bob Dylan and Conor Oberst from Baeble Music. In a departure from that more stripped-down effort\, Plaine assembled a full-fledged band who recorded in an apartment in Brooklyn\, infusing Stratford with a homegrown feel and loose yet kinetic energy. \nTaking its title from the Flatbush street where the album came to life\, Stratford offers a classically arranged take on folk-rock that illuminates the intimacy of Plaine’s vocal work and the graceful candor of his lyrics. From track to track\, the 27-year-old singer/guitarist reveals a refined sense of songcraft that he partly credits to moving to Nashville from his hometown of Minneapolis in early 2017. “Being part of a whole community of songwriters\, you realize there’s a lot of different directions you can take a song\,” he says. “It’s really opened me up as a writer\, and it’s also helped me to hone in on every word of every line that I write.” \nWith its abundance of indelible images—night trains and the Northern Lights\, backyard camping and drive-in romance—Stratford also bears a richness of detail that hints at the literary and cinematic influence behind Plaine’s songwriting. “People tend to think my songs are personal because I sing in the first person\, but often it’s very observational for me\,” says Plaine\, who names Alexandre Dumas and Henry Miller among his inspirations. “I’m learning to understand new philosophies of life\, love\, and death”\, attributing his passion for reading has helped him attain a better sense of his surroundings. \nProving the emotional depth of Plaine’s artistry\, Stratford opens with the wistful reminiscence of “Something More” (a steel-guitar-laced track “like a movie I’ve seen before / way back when / we were something more” sings Plaine in the chorus)\, then slips into the bittersweet\, burned-but-not-broken ache of “What Kind of Fool” (a rollicking\, country-tinged number co-written with Sixpence None the Richer’s Leigh Nash and Stephen Wilson). Later\, on “Lucky Ones”\, Plaine presents a more hopeful portrait unconditional love\, with singer/songwriter Soren Bryce lending her vocals to the chorus’s bright and beautiful harmonies. \n \nMichael Dunton\, known professionally as M.Dunton\, is a singer-songwriter and guitarist out of East Nashville\, TN. His work combines flavors of indie rock and alt-country\, with a unique and timeless approach to songwriting that allows him to exist in a world of his own. He was born in San Francisco and grew up in Coeur d’Alene\, Idaho\, where he discovered two primary loves at an early age: music and running. He grew up running the trails of Northern Idaho with embryonic formations of songs in his head and spent his teenage summers working as a rafting guide in Missoula\, Montana\, where he was free to explore nature by day and write songs on the Lozeau Quartz trestle bridge by night. After graduating from Boise State University\, he left the Northwest for Nashville to pursue his passion for the guitar. While working as a hired gun guitarist\, he continues to create his own lane as an artist. “I write music to express sensations I cannot put into words\, arranged around songs that I can grow old with and sing forever.” He collaborated with Steven Cooper and Owen Beverly of Indianola on his debut releases\, including his 2023 Lonely Neighbors EP. He’s currently recording his debut full-length record with Aaron Shafer-Haiss and booking shows for summer\, 2023. \n\nFood & Bar: Our full food and drink menu will be available before and during the show. DESCRIPTION:Born of the 2010’s folk boom and now comfortably stationed in their rock and roll era\, The Crane Wives epitomize the evolving sound of the indie genre. Having performed hundreds of shows on stages across the country\, they gravitate toward high-energy melodies\, featuring the kinetic percussion of Dan Rickabus\, the silky\, driving bass lines of Ben Zito and playful guitar leads from front women Emilee Petersmark and Kate Pillsbury. Counterbalancing their lively stage presence\, their lyrics extol the shadow side of the human condition\, delving into mythology and themes of darkness and inner conflict. The band softens the blows of their emotional candor with soulful three-part vocal harmonies\, like a 21st century Cerberus\, the hound of Hades reimagined as an emotional support animal. When it came to music\, most of the kids he grew up with pursued hip-hop\, adopting rap names. However\, it’s no coincidence that Charles chose the name BLKBOK\, which echoes that of one of the greatest pianists and composers of all time. The tag is also an apt reflection of the elements that have contributed to the artist’s identity and symbolizes his colorful journey from pop and hip-hop culture to his critically acclaimed\, neo-classical debut album Black Book\, and various Mixtape projects and collaborations. \nBLKBOK’s live\, high-energy performance is culturally reflective and seeks to entertain with a live piano based performance like none you have ever seen before. BLKBOK’s vision is to illuminate awareness for all\, encouraging dialogue and counterpoint in the way we perceive ourselves and the world we live in together. \nBLKBOK’s critically-acclaimed debut album Black Book\, served as a founding cornerstone at the very first Juneteenth Foundation’s Freedom Concert and was re-released as a DLUX Edition in June\, with two new tracks\, Forgotten Girls and Kendrick + Karine\, covering relevant topics in mainstream culture\, and in the voice that is uniquely BLKBOK. His first Mixtape release\, CVRART\, and Mixtape project Angels Watching Over Me\, with world-renowned tenor Lawrence Brownlee\, illustrate the innovative and disruptive musical landscape that is BLKBOK. His original track Stars (Ad Astra) was performed as the first-ever piano duet from Space in April 2022. \nFood & Bar: We will not be open during normal business hours for this show – ticket holders will be able to check in and the venue will open at the door time listed on this event page. Over the course of a three-day period last August\, the Fort Worth\, Texas-based musician wrote more than half of the album\, locking himself in his bedroom and emerging only when he felt completely burnt out. “I went in thinking I was going to write just one song—but then the songs kept coming\, and I didn’t want to break the spell\,” he recalls. “I’d go to sleep with the guitar by the bed\, pick it back up when I woke up the next morning\, and do it all again. I’d never really experienced anything like that before.” \nWith its nuanced exploration of aging and loss and the fragility of life\, To The Passage Of Time arrives as the Mississippi-bred artist’s most lyrically complex and compelling work to date. As Eady reveals\, the album’s understated power stems in part from the intentionality of the recording process\, which involved enlisting Band of Heathens’ Gordy Quist as producer and gathering many of Eady’s favorite musicians he’s played with over the years (including Noah Jeffries on mandolin and fiddle\, Mark Williams on upright bass and cello\, and Geoff Queen on Dobro\, pedal steel\, and lap steel). “I really love egoless players—people who know how to serve the song\,” notes Eady\, who recorded at The Finishing School in Austin and made ample use of the studio’s goldmine of vintage gear. “We started every song with just me on guitar\, and if someone felt like they had a part to add\, they had to come forward and say what they heard there. Everything was built from the ground up\, and because of that there’s no filler—nobody playing to show off or take up space.” \nOn the album’s exquisite centerpiece “French Summer Sun”—a devastating epic astoundingly captured in the very first take—Eady shares one of his most riveting pieces of storytelling yet. “My grandfather fought at the Battle of Anzio in Italy in World War II\, and a few years ago on tour I went to visit the beach where the battle took place\,” says Eady. “I was struck by how small the beach was—I realized that if my grandfather had made one wrong move he would’ve been killed\, and I wouldn’t be standing there thinking those thoughts. I ended up writing this song about how when someone dies in war\, it isn’t just killing that person: it’s killing the generations of people who would have come from them.” Building to a shattering plot twist in its final moments\, “French Summer Sun” drifts between its somberly sung chorus and spoken-word verses\, attaining an unlikely transcendence as Eady sheds equally poignant light on the horror of war and the ephemeral beauty of everyday life. \nLooking back on the making of To The Passage Of Time\, Eady points to such unexpected moments as the recording of the album-opening “Nothing On You.” “Apart from my guitar\, the only two instruments on that song are cello and steel guitar—which is a combination I’d never heard before\, and gave it a whole new character that took my breath away\,” he says. But for the most part\, Eady achieved a rare outcome in the album’s production: a direct expression of his deep-rooted and highly specific vision. “I write my songs on acoustic guitar\, so sometimes in the studio things take different turns and end up not really matching with what you had in your head\,” says Eady. “But because of the approach we took with this album\, there’s hardly anything that came out different from what I’d envisioned. This is 100 percent the album I hoped I would make.” \nMidnight River Choir \n\n\n\nWebsite\n\nThe formation of Midnight River Choir was nothing short of a force of nature that now translates seamlessly during their live shows. This band needs no labels or comparisons. Their music speaks volumes about who and what they are. Their lives have been woven together by a strong thread of energy both on and off stage. That energy is raw and natural and soaked up from the Earth through their bare feet. They believe that what you get is what you give and they give everything they have to their crowds. When that kind of energy lands back at the feet of the boys it is something of supreme intensity. And no one ever forgets it. \nFood & Bar: Our full food and drink menu will be available before and during the show. DESCRIPTION:“Montoya is a show-stopper…heartfelt singing and merciless guitar with a wicked icy burn. He is one of the truly gifted blues artists of his generation.” \n–Living Blues On Friday\, September 1\, award-winning\, internationally renowned blues-rock guitarist\, singer and songwriter Coco Montoya will release Writing On The Wall\, his sixth album for Alligator Records and his first release in four years. The album will initially be available on CD and at all digital sites\, with 140g translucent blue vinyl LP to follow on September 29.In addition to the new album\, Montoya today announced his coast-to-coast Writing On The Wall Tour\, beginning September 21 in Salt Lake City and moving to Chicago\, New York and Texas with many stops in between. See full list of tour dates below. With Writing On The Wall\, Montoya delivers what he is calling one of the best records he’s ever made. For the very first time on Alligator\, he decided to bring his road-tested band—noted keyboardist and songwriter Jeff Paris (Keb’ Mo’\, Bill Withers)\, bassist Nathan Brown\, and drummer Rena Beavers—into the studio with him. Guests on the album include Lee Roy Parnell\, who adds his well-seasoned slide guitar to the smoldering A Chip And A Chair\, and Coco’s friend\, guitarist Ronnie Baker Brooks (son of late Alligator star Lonnie Brooks)\, on the searing cover of Bobby Bland’s You Got Me (Where You Want Me) and on the droll Baby\, You’re A Drag. Between the camaraderie of the long-time bandmates and the sheer talent of all involved\, the results have Coco feeling\, in his words\, “over the moon.” He continues\, “I am so proud of this one. The band played so great\, they ended up making me play even harder. They made me sound better than I am!” Produced by Grammy Award-winner Tony Braunagel (Bonnie Raitt\, Taj Mahal) and co-produced by Jeff Paris\, Writing On The Wall is a tour-de-force of memorable\, hook-filled songs\, sung with passion and fueled by Montoya’s fiery guitar and the band’s spot-on musicianship. The 13 tracks include five written or co-written by Montoya. The set opens with a signature\, career-defining performance of the soul-baring I Was Wrong\, written for Coco by songwriter Dave Steen. The song will be released as the first single from the album\, along with a visualizer video\, on Monday\, July 31.The self-taught\, left-handed Montoya mastered his craft under blues master Albert Collins’ tutelage and friendship. Initially hired to be Collins’ drummer\, Montoya\, at Collins’ urging\, became the band’s second guitarist. A few years later\, UK legend John Mayall chose Montoya to be his lead guitarist in the famous Blues Breakers. Montoya traveled the world\, soaking up both musical and life lessons.Montoya’s recorded debut as a bandleader came with 1995’s Gotta Mind To Travel (originally on Silvertone Records in England and later issued in the USA on Blind Pig Records). The album became an instant fan favorite and made it clear that Montoya ranked among the best players on the contemporary blues scene. Two more Blind Pig albums followed\, and Coco\, with his endlessly inventive guitar work and passionate\, hard-hitting vocals\, became one of the top draws on the blues circuit. In 2000\, Montoya’s Alligator debut\, Suspicion\, quickly became the best-selling album of his career\, earning regular radio airplay on over 120 commercial stations nationwide. Montoya’s fan base exploded. After two more highly successful and massively popular Alligator releases—2002’s Can’t Look Back and 2007’s Dirty Deal—Montoya signed with Ruf Records\, cutting both a live and a studio album. Returning to Alligator with 2017’s Hard Truth and 2019’s Coming In Hot\, the guitar master continued to blaze his trail. “Montoya unleashes one career-topping performance after another\,” declared the UK’s Blues Matters.Now\, with the dynamic Writing On The Wall and a tour overflowing with dates\, Coco Montoya is excited to perform the new songs live with his burning-hot band. Montoya’s reputation as an incendiary live performer is well-earned\, as he delivers the goods night after night. Vintage Guitar declares\, “Coco keeps getting better and better. He plays with fire and passion rarely seen in this day and age.” \nFood & Bar: Our full food and drink menu will be available before and during the show. \n  URL:https://nataliesgrandview.com/events/coco-montoya-2/ LOCATION:Natalie’s Grandview – Music Hall Stage\, 945 King Avenue\, Columbus\, OH\, 43212\, United States CATEGORIES:Music Hall Stage ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/jpeg:https://nataliesgrandview.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/cocomontoya1.jpeg END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART;TZID=America/New_York:20231020T171500 DTEND;TZID=America/New_York:20231020T171500 DTSTAMP:20240118T110314 CREATED:20230926T180114Z LAST-MODIFIED:20230926T180302Z UID:129777-1697822100-1697822100@nataliesgrandview.com SUMMARY:The Mezzanines DESCRIPTION:The Mezzanines perform a variety of songs that straddle classic country\, western swing & jazz. DESCRIPTION:The Ocean Blue arrived as the 1980s drew to close\, and their debut record on the famed Sire Records label in 1989 seemed to summarize the best of the passing musical decade. With the release of The Ocean Blue\, the band of four teenagers from Hershey\, Pennsylvania quickly achieved widespread acclaim and radio & MTV airplay with top 10 Modern Rock/College Radio hits like Between Something and Nothing\, Drifting\, Falling\, and Vanity Fair. They followed their debut with the dreamy and atmospheric Cerulean\, which includes perhaps their most beloved song\, Ballerina Out of Control.\n\nTheir third Sire release and highest charting pop album Beneath the Rhythm and Sound featured the single Sublime\, with a video of the band in the sublime landscape of Iceland. The band’s fourth major label album on Mercury/PolyGram\, See The Ocean Blue\, delved into wider 60s and 70s stylings but with the band’s 80s DNA peeking through.\nThe band left the majors in the late 90s and released several independent records in the ensuing decade\, including 2000’s Davy Jones Locker and 2004’s Waterworks.  In 2013\, after a long hiatus and much anticipation\, the band released their first full length record in a decade\, Ultramarine\, on Korda Records\, a label cooperative the band helped launch that same year. The record was a welcome return for both long-time fans of the band and a younger generation of like-minded fans\, and it garnered widespread praise as one of their very best albums. In 2015\, the band worked with Sire Records to reissue their first three albums on vinyl and did wider touring in North America and in South America\, where some of their most passionate fans reside. \nIn 2019\, the band returned with the beautifully powerful Kings and Queens / Knaves and Thieves and has continued to tour for this release and the newly re-issued vinyl of See The Ocean Blue (2022) and Davy Jones Locker (2023). \n Food & Bar: A limited food menu of pizza and fries as well as our full bar will be available before and during the show. Watson has flown the flag for classic honky-tonk for over two decades. He’s christened his brand of American roots “Ameripolitan” to differentiate it from current crop of Nashville-based pop country. The Alabama-born\, Texas-raised Watson may be the hardest working entertainer today and is rapidly approaching legendary status.  He is a country music maverick\, a true outlaw who stands alongside Waylon Jennings\, Willie Nelson\, and George Strait as one of the finest country singers and songwriters from the Lone Star State. \nIn the late 19th century\, a budding young musician by the name of Huddie William Ledbetter left his home after his father sought to discourage the boy’s artistic ambitions by referring to Huddie’s guitar as a “starvation box\,” cursed to bring only poverty and famine. That young man would go on to have an unimaginably profound impact on music\, becoming internationally recognized as folk blues pioneer Lead Belly. Over a hundred years later\, Lead Belly’s musical lineage continues\, and his story still provides inspiration for artists\, including country outlaw and fellow Texan Dale Watson with his new acoustic album that puts Watson’s own starvation box front and center.  \nOpening the show is Matt Hillyer\, the former lead singer-songwriter for the now disbanded and legendary honky-tonk band Eleven Hundred Springs\, who played countless shows around the world\, released over a dozen albums\, and had become the standard for what a swingin’ Texas country band should be. For Hillyer\, the ending of his beloved band wasn’t the closing of his own musical road. He’s already hitting the road with a busy touring schedule and his solo songs are hitting the right notes with fans everywhere. \nFood & Bar: Our full food and drink menu will be available before and during the show.
