DESCRIPTION:Bobby Floyd and Paisha Thomas present\, Testimony Service. We’re heading back to our Black Church roots where musicians learned to play in every key\, thanks to what we call Testimony Service. Testimony service is about people in the congregation telling stories of overcoming trials\, receiving blessings despite their many challenges\, and singing gospel music rich with emotion and perseverance. Just like with the Blues\, when you sing these uplifting gospel songs\, your trials seem to melt away and you find “your help”. Joined by Debra James Tucker and Karen Hewitt\, for the gospel harmonies we grew up on\, and the band Tyrone Collier on bass and Reggie Jackson on drums.  \nThe unique sound of vocalist Debra James Tucker is a product of extensive training in jazz\, classical and gospel music. She is the writer/performer of the one woman show Survival of the Boulevard Singer—winner of an Ohio Arts Council Award for Individual Excellence\, has been a visiting instructor at Denison University in the history of African American Gospel Music\, and an artist in residence with several youth arts organizations. \nSoul Sunday at Natalie’s is held on the first Sunday of each month. Seating for The Gospel Show Brunch show begins at 1:30 pm\, with showtime at 2:30 pm presenting the best national and regional Gospel Artists in concert hosted by Debra James Tucker. The evening show\, hosted by Qamil\, features a variety of Soul bands. DESCRIPTION:Kieran Kane’s seminal work in The O’Kanes and Kane Welch Kaplin\, as well as co-founding the independent label Dead Reckoning Records\, laid the foundation for the contemporary world of Americana music. A successful solo artist\, collaborator\, and songwriter (with songs recorded by Alan Jackson\, John Prine\, Emmylou Harris\, and many more)\, Kieran is a musician’s musician: his playing is always understated\, always groove-oriented\, and always serving the song.\n\nIf Rayna Gellert seems a preternaturally gifted songwriter\, it’s because she’s seen farther into the old songs than most. Growing up in a musical family\, she turned to Appalachian old-time music at a young age\, becoming a prodigious fiddler and leading a new revival of American stringband music through her work with the acclaimed roots band Uncle Earl. An in-demand collaborator\, she has toured and recorded with artists such as Scott Miller\, Abigail Washburn\, Toubab Krewe\, and Robyn Hitchcock.\n\nKieran and Rayna first met\, fittingly\, at San Francisco’s celebrated Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival\, which led to their cowriting songs for Kieran’s solo album Unguarded Moments (Dead Reckoning). They joined forces again for Rayna’s 2017 release\, Workin’s Too Hard (StorySound Records)\, which they also co-produced. Their first duo album\, The Ledges\, was released in February of 2018 on Dead Reckoning Records\, followed up quickly by 2019’s When the Sun Goes Down. \nNow\, in 2022\, this “unlikely musical couple” have released The Flowers That Bloom in Spring\, which finds the duo digging deeper into their exploration of minimalist writing and recording. \nFans of either artist will recognize the musical kindred-spiritedness in their restrained and roots-oriented approach to both songs and arrangements. \nFood & Bar: Our full food and drink menu will be available before and during the show.

Co-produced by close friend and kindred musical spirit\, Ruston Kelly\, and beloved Nashville engineer and producer\, Gena Johnson\, the album is rich and dynamic from cathartic jams to nostalgic storytelling.\n\nThe son of late songwriting legend\, John Prine\, Tommy Prine grew up in Nashville surrounded by music\, art and writing. As a child\, he thought all parents were musicians\, as his father “going to work” meant performing shows for adoring fans and writing songs. Tommy learned to play guitar by watching his father play\, copying the ways his fingers moved and inadvertently developing his own singular style. Summers in Ireland lent their own inspiration\, as did 10 straight years camping at Bonnaroo. Prine’s musical tastes grew to become decidedly eclectic\, spanning John Mayer\, Outkast\, Bon Iver\, the Strokes and more.\n\nIt wasn’t until Prine reached his mid-twenties\, though\, that he considered a career of his own in music and began to share with others the songs he wrote in private. Her parents and grandparents are both music educators\, and she followed in their footsteps. DESCRIPTION:Natalie’s presents a special tribute to the music and life of John Hartford\, featuring the band Appalachian Swing\, talented musician Rick Good\, and multi-instrumentalist Paul Brown. Hartford was one of the most influential and widely loved musicians of the 20th century\, and this annual celebration helps to keep his legacy alive. \nAppalachian Swing is an exciting band featuring Adam Schlenker (guitar)\, Hayes Griffin (Mandolin)\, Todd Sams (banjo) and George Welling (bass) that is building its sound around the Kentucky Colonels brand of bluegrass and has wowed area audiences with their energy and amazing musicianship. Adam is an educator\, performer\, composer and arranger of Acoustic American Roots Music\, and has been featured in and contributed to Flat Picking Guitar Magazine and is the Coordinator of American Roots Music Studies at Denison University. Hayes is a multi-instrumentalist and music educator who has over a decade’s worth of experience touring with acts like Canadian fiddler April Verch and progressive bluegrass band Newtown\, whose album Harlan Road featured Griffin’s guitar work and debuted at #8 on the Billboard Bluegrass Charts.  \nRick Good was a founding member of the notorious Hotmud Family and a co-director and performer with Rhythm in Shoes for twenty-three years. Rick received the 2010 Ohio Heritage Fellow\, an award which honored his 40 year career as a musician\, actor\, writer\, educator and advocate of America’s musical roots. He is recognized and respected for his accomplished banjo playing\, heartfelt singing and crafty songwriting.  Rick also performed regularly with the Red Clay Ramblers\, and currently can be seen with the Dayton based band The Elements. \nPaul Brown has been performing for over four decades and recently formed his new band “Hillbilly Chic”. According to Paul\, he began his musical journey on the streets of Lancaster\, Ohio\, busking for drinking money at the age of 9.  He offered himself as a human sacrifice to Sam Bush and Stewart Duncan at the age of 15 and has had only a few regrets about it.  After a brief stint in prison\, where he wrote children’s books about pet vivisection\, Paul joined a Tantric bluegrass cult.  Penning hits such as “Little Buddhist Shrine on the Hill”\, “The Ballad of Swami Yogananda” and “My Himalayan Cabin Home”\, Paul has been well tolerated in the southern Ohio music scene.  Primarily playing banjo and fiddle\, he has been described as “like John Hartford\, but without the talent”. John Petric of the Columbus Dispatch\, compliments “…her rapid-fire phrasing\, practically turning the lyrics into liquid sounds. Amazing.” She has opened for Sarah Vaughn\, Bob James\, Bob Newhart\, Joan Rivers\, Tito Puente\, Tony Bennett and many more.
