Although his catalog of tunes is not without dark or mournful underpinnings\, his songs always glow out of that dark night\, with soft but steady warmth. Among his many credits are appearances on “Mountain Stage with Larry Groce. \nRachel Figley was born and raised in Northeastern Ohio and has spent the better part of the last decade in Nashville\, Tennessee. Her sweet and soulful voice weaves a melancholy melody with stories of love\, heartbreak\, bourbon\, and the occasional murder. You’ll find evidence of small-town roots and Appalachian influence\, along with a hint of her favorite jazz vocalists from the 50s and 60s.  \nBen Leeson cut his teeth playing in dives around Northeast Ohio. He refined his folk-rock sound among the hills of Athens\, Ohio\, penning songs of heartache and telling stories. Leeson’s tunes carry influences of classic rock\, folk\, and indie. And just by showing up you’ll be supporting an incredible cause because a portion of ticket sales go to St. Jude Children’s Hospital! \nThe evening will also feature a charity raffle with items from Dave Buker & The Historian’s\, Natalies and Jesse Hubbard with the entirety of the money from the raffle going to St. Jude as well. \nSo\, mark your calendars and be sure to join us on December 16th for the Saint Russell’s Holiday Bash! \n\nDave Buker & the Historians: based in Columbus\, OH\, Dave Buker and the historians have been spreading their brand of americana since 2010. After performing at 2017’s Bunbury music festival\, which also featured death cab for cutie and the shins\, they won cd92.9fm’s local artist contest\, were featured by American songwriter magazine\, and opened for spoon\, alvvays\, and the aces. But as was true for many musicians\, the covid-19 pandemic slowed the band’s momentum\, and they chose to focus on writing and recording new music. The result is heirlooms\, the band’s first album of original music since 2019’s it moves in the dark. \nThe album is a change of pace that saw the band collaborate with new audio engineers and cultivate a more modern and energetic approach. Music blog tuned up recognized this in the album’s first single\, “Stubborn Blood”\, saying – “right out of the gate\, I’m struck by the driving nature of the song and the crunch of the guitars. This is somewhat unexpected for Buker\, an americana influenced indie artist that has been prolific in the Columbus scene for years.” The single was accompanied by a music video that pays homage to 80’s slasher films and emphasizes the more aggressive approach to the music. \nHeirlooms’ ten tracks show a different side of Dave Buker and the historians\, at once less organic and more intimate and urgent\, while maintaining the lyrical textures and vocal harmonies that have come to define the band. Check out their website! \nOctober Ember: Sometimes playful\, sometimes poignant\, October Ember is comprised of Jennifer Dutiel and Kevin Holland\, a multi-instrumentalist couple with a penchant for the quirky and the beautiful. A cross-pollination of folk\, indie lounge\, Euro Cafe\, art pop\, and punk cabaret\, their exploration of odd time signatures\, neo-minimalist pulses\, ethereal timbres\, and vast dynamic spectra transmutes ontology into sound. With the wisps of softened reeds\, dreamy guitars\, and intricate percussion\, they paint an aural tapestry for the film of existence.  \nOctober Ember formed in 2017 and launched their first self-titled EP that same year. They were featured on the Emmy-award winning television show Broad & High after their 2019 Tiny Desk Contest video submission for the song “Waves” attracted the attention of the show’s producers. The group is known for powerfully moving\, revival-like performances\, with beautifully atmospheric vocals riding above a wave of infectious rhythms and grooves. Their music has allowed them to open for artists like late Rance Allen\, The Slide Brothers and rock band\, Raconteurs. Hartford was one of the most influential and widely loved musicians of the 20th century\, and this annual celebration helps to keep his legacy alive. \nAppalachian Swing is an exciting band featuring Adam Schlenker (guitar)\, Hayes Griffin (Mandolin)\, Todd Sams (banjo) and George Welling (bass) that is building its sound around the Kentucky Colonels brand of bluegrass and has wowed area audiences with their energy and amazing musicianship. Adam is an educator\, performer\, composer and arranger of Acoustic American Roots Music\, and has been featured in and contributed to Flat Picking Guitar Magazine and is the Coordinator of American Roots Music Studies at Denison University. Hayes is a multi-instrumentalist and music educator who has over a decade’s worth of experience touring with acts like Canadian fiddler April Verch and progressive bluegrass band Newtown\, whose album Harlan Road featured Griffin’s guitar work and debuted at #8 on the Billboard Bluegrass Charts.  \nRick Good was a founding member of the notorious Hotmud Family and a co-director and performer with Rhythm in Shoes for twenty-three years. Rick received the 2010 Ohio Heritage Fellow\, an award which honored his 40 year career as a musician\, actor\, writer\, educator and advocate of America’s musical roots. He is recognized and respected for his accomplished banjo playing\, heartfelt singing and crafty songwriting.  Rick also performed regularly with the Red Clay Ramblers\, and currently can be seen with the Dayton based band The Elements. \nPaul Brown has been performing for over four decades and recently formed his new band “Hillbilly Chic”. According to Paul\, he began his musical journey on the streets of Lancaster\, Ohio\, busking for drinking money at the age of 9.  He offered himself as a human sacrifice to Sam Bush and Stewart Duncan at the age of 15 and has had only a few regrets about it.  After a brief stint in prison\, where he wrote children’s books about pet vivisection\, Paul joined a Tantric bluegrass cult.  Penning hits such as “Little Buddhist Shrine on the Hill”\, “The Ballad of Swami Yogananda” and “My Himalayan Cabin Home”\, Paul has been well tolerated in the southern Ohio music scene.  Primarily playing banjo and fiddle\, he has been described as “like John Hartford\, but without the talent”. With professional mentorship from the Columbus Blues Alliance’s musician community and direction from Jeff McCargish (Musical Director\, Fort Hayes Arts and Academic High School)\, 614BluesEd provides young musicians with training and experience unlike any other musical program in central Ohio. \nThe 2023 614BluesEd cohort is the band Gen Blues\, which has played at the Columbus Blues Challenge and will now be traveling to Memphis to perform at the 2024 International Blues Challenge.  All proceeds from this fundraiser go directly to covering travel expenses for Gen Blues’ trip to Memphis. \nFood & Bar: Our full food and drink menu will be available before and during the show.

DESCRIPTION:Tommy Prine’s debut album “This Far South” coming June 23\, 2023 is not only a long awaited introduction but a testimony to Prine’s 20’s and the loss\, love\, and growth that has defined them. Co-produced by close friend and kindred musical spirit\, Ruston Kelly\, and beloved Nashville engineer and producer\, Gena Johnson\, the album is rich and dynamic from cathartic jams to nostalgic storytelling.\n\nThe son of late songwriting legend\, John Prine\, Tommy Prine grew up in Nashville surrounded by music\, art and writing. As a child\, he thought all parents were musicians\, as his father “going to work” meant performing shows for adoring fans and writing songs. Tommy learned to play guitar by watching his father play\, copying the ways his fingers moved and inadvertently developing his own singular style. Summers in Ireland lent their own inspiration\, as did 10 straight years camping at Bonnaroo.
