DESCRIPTION:Much has changed for singer-songwriter Alice Peacock since her last solo studio album\, 2009’s Love Remains. She’s had three kids\, moved to Cincinnati and … gotten 10 years older. “Feel the weight of the world on my shoulders/ Am I wiser or am I just older?” she sings on “Dry Spell\,” from her new collection\, Minnesota. The record suggests that despite her “wondering what all is yet to be\,” she has indeed attained a measure of wisdom. \nShe uses the word “midlife” but does not follow it by “crisis.” She views her current outlook more as an awareness of life’s fragility and an appreciation of its sweetness. “Being a parent\, I don’t know that I could love any more than I do right now\,” she says\, “so I’ve also never been more vulnerable. I have everything to lose.” \nFurther evidence of this contemplative spirit can be heard on album closer “God Be Near Me\,” about which Peacock says\, “I wrote a hymn out of nowhere! I was sitting at the piano one day going\, ‘Am I completely screwing this all up?’ And I found myself thinking\, ‘Help me to stay focused on love.’” The lyrics ask\, “Help me to surrender/ And love the world the way you do/ Now and ever after/ And live in love the way you do.” \nOn Minnesota\, Peacock explores an understanding of love\, in particular\, that transcends hearts and flowers\, Sturm und Drang. “Resting in the Quiet” acknowledges “a glimpse of the divine” in unspoken eloquence: “We don’t have to talk about it/ We don’t have to say a word/ We can wrap ourselves in silence/ Cause I’ve already heard/ Everything your eyes are saying.” \nA departure from romantic love\, “Free and Wild” is a lullaby sung from the point of view of someone “with a love so fierce” it hurts. Peacock likens parenthood to “going through life with your heart outside your body.” \nThe album’s title track is a love song to her home state\, where her family spends their summers. “I’ve lived in Illinois and Tennessee and now Ohio and I love them all\, but there’s something about home … As soon as I get back to Minnesota and hear the birds and smell the air\, I feel\, ‘This is mine; this is me.’” In the song she recalls sitting in “sacred silence\,” watching “the electric light show playing wide across the sky.” \n“Things feel very sacred to me at this time in my life\,” Peacock confides. “You reach an age where you begin to lose people. DESCRIPTION:Join a night of original music from area singer songwriters hosted by Ron Freeman.  \nShiloh Hawkins is an American singer-songwriter and guitarist best known for her organic songwriting approach\, emotive vocals and captivating storytelling. A native of Youngstown\, Ohio\, her musical career has taken her as far away as Austin\, Texas. Being in a new city inspired Shiloh to create tracks such as “Put the Coffee On” and “Honey Bee\,” but the pull of home brought her back to Ohio where she has settled in Columbus. Her latest album\, “When You Love A Traveler” is an evolutionary breakaway from previous work\, percussive and raw\, drawing inspiration from 1960s and 70s Americana\, Folk\, Jazz\, and Country. The 13 track LP was released in March 2019. A new record is in the works and will be released in Spring of 2024 with Hawkins’ band\, Common Blue Violets.  \nLuke Harris has been writing and performing in Columbus\, Ohio for over 15 years. He is currently the frontman for both Playing to Vapors and Summon Luke. His music is a blend of rock\, pop\, alternative and occasionally folk with fantastical and tragic lyrics. His band Summon Luke has released multiple singles in the past year\, most recently the song “Caroline”. \nRon Freeman is a singer/songwriter and member of Lost Orchards\, a Columbus\, Ohio Americana band with two EPs: “Deaf Kids” and “Assassins”\, a concept record about the love affairs of presidential assassins. Ron’s songs have been described as “strange\,” “cerebral\,” and “like a really good ice cream cone that melts faster than you can eat it.” With a fresh perspective and a lyric-driven approach\, Ron is a natural storyteller who chronicles unique subjects like the invention of the high five\, the closing of restaurants\, and Civil War era religious cults. DESCRIPTION:Singer/songwriter Lydia Brownfield’s latest project\, Albatross City\, is an audio-visual\, multi-media event showcasing Lydia’s original songs accompanied by original video. The three-piece ensemble includes Ty Landrum on a standing “cocktail” drum kit equipped with acoustic and electronic percussion\, and Jeff Dalrymple and Lydia switching between bass guitar\, and a variety of other guitars. \nThe songs were written with purpose and are each accompanied by a short film/video created by Lydia. The show is crafted with close attention to detail including pre-recorded sound effects setting moods\, and for changing of instruments among the group. Their sound is a twist of swampy pop\, and indie singer/songwriter\, with electronic undertones. \nStill with catchy hooks and the memorable choruses that Lydia is known for\, the songs feel explicitly poignant\, and deal with the often bipolar mix of emotion that is our collective human experience. As the principal singer and songwriter of the band\, Remnant and his bandmates garnered critical acclaim from publications such as NPR\, Paste Magazine\, Pitchfork\, American Songwriter\, and many more. Remnant continues making music under his own name today. Adam has released the 2016 EP\, When I Was a Boy\, as well as the 2018 LP\, Sourwood. Remnant’s signature baritone voice and literary songwriting act as the focal point in the productions. As a child she learned to play piano and guitar. Most of her life was spent around horses. Kelly was a professional horse trainer for 20+ years. It was not until after losing her mother to cancer in 2010\, that she found herself reconnecting with her guitar and began writing music. In July of 2014\, she made the decision to pursue music full-time. \nShe has performed at The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and has opened for national touring artists such as two time Grammy nominated Jennifer Knapp. Interviewed twice to date on Good Day Columbus\, she was recently featured on “Slice of Life” with Adam Slinger (WSYX 6). Her song “Ordinary Girl”\, from her debut EP (2014) was featured on local radio station CD 102.5 (92.9). She was \ninterviewed on “Music Journeys” with Mike Foley (90.5 WCBE). and also highlighted on WGRN 94.1’s “The Music Room” with Rick Barr. In March of 2017\, she released her first full-length album entitled “Life Goes On”. Among his many credits are appearances on “Mountain Stage with Larry Groce. \nRachel Figley was born and raised in Northeastern Ohio and has spent the better part of the last decade in Nashville\, Tennessee. Her sweet and soulful voice weaves a melancholy melody with stories of love\, heartbreak\, bourbon\, and the occasional murder. You’ll find evidence of small-town roots and Appalachian influence\, along with a hint of her favorite jazz vocalists from the 50s and 60s.  \nBen Leeson cut his teeth playing in dives around Northeast Ohio. DESCRIPTION:Saint Russell Productions brings you Saint Russell’s Holiday Bash featuring the award-winning Columbus\, OH Americana outfit\, Dave Buker & The Historians with support from the must-see art-pop duo\, October Ember. \n\nThis is sure to be a night to remember with great music and some terrific prizes. And just by showing up you’ll be supporting an incredible cause because a portion of ticket sales go to St. Jude Children’s Hospital! \nThe evening will also feature a charity raffle with items from Dave Buker & The Historian’s\, Natalies and Jesse Hubbard with the entirety of the money from the raffle going to St. Jude as well. \nSo\, mark your calendars and be sure to join us on December 16th for the Saint Russell’s Holiday Bash! \n\nDave Buker & the Historians: based in Columbus\, OH\, Dave Buker and the historians have been spreading their brand of americana since 2010. After performing at 2017’s Bunbury music festival\, which also featured death cab for cutie and the shins\, they won cd92.9fm’s local artist contest\, were featured by American songwriter magazine\, and opened for spoon\, alvvays\, and the aces. But as was true for many musicians\, the covid-19 pandemic slowed the band’s momentum\, and they chose to focus on writing and recording new music. The result is heirlooms\, the band’s first album of original music since 2019’s it moves in the dark. \nThe album is a change of pace that saw the band collaborate with new audio engineers and cultivate a more modern and energetic approach. Music blog tuned up recognized this in the album’s first single\, “Stubborn Blood”\, saying – “right out of the gate\, I’m struck by the driving nature of the song and the crunch of the guitars. This is somewhat unexpected for Buker\, an americana influenced indie artist that has been prolific in the Columbus scene for years.” The single was accompanied by a music video that pays homage to 80’s slasher films and emphasizes the more aggressive approach to the music. \nHeirlooms’ ten tracks show a different side of Dave Buker and the historians\, at once less organic and more intimate and urgent\, while maintaining the lyrical textures and vocal harmonies that have come to define the band. Check out their website! \nOctober Ember: Sometimes playful\, sometimes poignant\, October Ember is comprised of Jennifer Dutiel and Kevin Holland\, a multi-instrumentalist couple with a penchant for the quirky and the beautiful. A cross-pollination of folk\, indie lounge\, Euro Cafe\, art pop\, and punk cabaret\, their exploration of odd time signatures\, neo-minimalist pulses\, ethereal timbres\, and vast dynamic spectra transmutes ontology into sound. With the wisps of softened reeds\, dreamy guitars\, and intricate percussion\, they paint an aural tapestry for the film of existence.  \nOctober Ember formed in 2017 and launched their first self-titled EP that same year. They were featured on the Emmy-award winning television show Broad & High after their 2019 Tiny Desk Contest video submission for the song “Waves” attracted the attention of the show’s producers. They release new music regularly and perform frequently across central Ohio. Since 2021\, they’ve been livestreaming multiple times per week on Twitch\, where they’ve built a global audience and community.
