DESCRIPTION:After the success of her critically-acclaimed 2021 release Daddy’ s Country Gold\, Melissa Carper\, dubbed “HillBillie Holiday” by friend and collaborator Chris Scruggs\, was eager to get back in the studio. With co-producers Andrija Tokic (St. Paul & The Broken Bones\, Hurray For The Riff Raff) and Dennis Crouch (The Time Jumpers) behind the boards again at Tokic’s analog paradise The Bomb Shelter in Nashville\, Carper assembled that same crew of magical music makers — plus a few more — to embark on her newest effort\, Ramblin’ Soul\, set for release November 18th via Thirty Tigers.\nCarper’s deep\, old-timey music roots were firmly planted as a child\, playing upright bass and singing in her family’s traveling country band in rural Nebraska. Her love of country classics was cultivated as she laid beneath the console listening to her parents’ record collection. Hank Williams\, Patsy Cline\, Loretta Lynn\, Ray Charles\, Elvis Presley\, and more became the soundtrack of her youth. When Carper’s father gifted her a collection of Jimmie Rodgers’ recordings\, she began to find her voice and calling as a songwriter.\nCarper attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln on a music scholarship\, and spent much of her time in the music library\, instinctively drawn to the great jazz classics and jazz vocalists such as Billie Holiday\, Ella Fitzgerald\, Frank Sinatra\, and Nat King Cole. She also discovered Lead Belly\, uncovering a deep well within when singing his songs. Carper stands firmly on the shoulders of American ramblers\, crooners\, and songsters — the building blocks of her musical foundation. \nAfter two years of college\, wanderlust set in\, and Carper hit the road in the family’s 1980 Dodge Maxi Van\, and landed in historic Eureka Springs\, Arkansas. There\, she was welcomed into the busking community\, and found a new home base — a place to write\, reflect\, and rejuvenate in years to come. As she belted out the lyrics to “Ramblin’ Man” life began to imitate art. Carper put a few hundred thousand miles on her vans and pick-up trucks\, playing the streets and clubs of New Orleans\, Austin\, and even a stint in NYC as a founding member of The Maybelles. Magnetically pulled into the cultural heritage wherever she went\, she immersed herself in the music of those who sang on those same street corners\, and off the beaten path in times gone by. \nAlong the way\, she founded award-winning bands like power trio The Carper Family\, the perfect outlet for her unique skills and style. The band brought her original work to life in a simple yet dynamic fashion that also served her inspirations — country\, bluegrass\, western swing\, and old-style jazz\, playing festivals and shows across the globe\, and on shows like “A Prairie Home Companion.” Carper also holds a spot in award-winning Arkansas foursome Sad Daddy\, and founded roots duo Buffalo Gals with Sad Daddy bandmate and partner\, award-winning fiddler Rebecca Patek. \nIn 2020\, grappling with the loss of regular gigs\, Carper and Patek moved to a friend’s farm near Austin\, working in exchange for housing\, organic vegetables\, and fresh\, country air. The simpler life afforded Carper the space and rejuvenation needed to channel her muse\, and begin writing for her next album. \n“I had a handful of songs about rambling around and living a free life that I wanted to weave through the album\,” Carper recalls. “I wrote the title track driving back home to Texas\, and it felt like the seeds of the next album were planted. I also knew I wanted Ramblin’ Soul to have a different feel than Daddy’s Country Gold\, with more upbeat and diverse styles and grooves.”\nRamblin’ Soul features a co-write with life long ramblin’ buddy and bandmate Gina Gallina\, a song penned by friend and frequent collaborator Brennen Leigh; a reimagined classic from folk pioneer Odetta; and ten Carper originals. The album ventures into blues\, early rock and roll\, and old school soul\, along with Carper’s signature styles of country\, western swing\, and jazz. \nAlbum track “Ain’t a Day Goes By” breaks your heart\, then mends it again in the universal longing for a loved one now gone on. Backed up by Hammond B3 organ (John Pahmer)\, the emotion is punctuated by the gospel-style harmony stylings of Kyshona Armstrong\, Nickie Conley\, and Maureen Murphy. “1980 Dodge Van” heralds pulsing electric guitar and a grooving upright bass (Dennis Crouch) in an ode to the loyal family vehicle\, while “I Don’t Need to Cry” is a Patsy Cline-esque lament showcasing Carper’s classic country range and songwriting finesse. The upbeat\, tongue-in-cheek “Holding All The Cards” transports us to a smoky New Orleans speakeasy\, with wordplay\, honky tonk piano\, and playful clarinet\, while Carper pays an upbeat western swing tribute to her current home state in “Texas\, Texas. Texas.” \nCarper’s lifelong\, steadfast listening has come to fruition in the songs on Ramblin’ Soul. DESCRIPTION:Natalie’s Grandview presents the Trad Nua Folk Club Night sponsored by the Dublin Irish Celebration featuring Dogwood Road. Tyler Moore (fiddle\, mandolin\, vocals) and Karl Wohlwend (guitar) are both veterans on America’s Irish music scene. As members of the bands Homeland\, Knot Fibb’n\, and Two2Many\, they have toured throughout the US\, playing in pubs\, concert halls and festivals in a dozen states. They can be heard playing on at least 10 full-length CD recordings. Tyler and Karl began playing together in the Ohio-based Two2Many in 2012\, and spun off as a duo act in 2014. Their sound has been described as “modern trad\,” reflecting their ability to bring the wealth of their varied experiences to bear on their approach to traditional music. Dogwood Road has feet firmly planted in the respect for the past\, while at the same time they acknowledge the spirit of today. High energy jigs and reels\, fun arrangements of traditional songs\, and an emerging repertory of original music are all features of a Dogwood Road show. \nAs a companion to the popular Trad Nua Celtic Concert Series at Natalie’s\, Trad Nua Folk Club Night strives to create an evening of Irish and Celtic music in a casual\, “folk club vibe” setting.  Hosted and anchored by acclaimed Irish musicians Mick Broderick and Randy Clepper\, Folk Club Night will feature a rotating lineup including some of the finest players and singers in the Midwest as well as occasional traveling musicians from Ireland.The series presents a variety of traditional Irish and Celtic acts often juxtaposing old styles with new influences\, local and international artists\, and featuring traditional instruments. \nRESERVATIONS: Reservations are strongly encouraged for our free Happy Hour Shows!

The album has 9 tracks and is only available on vinyl\, starting September 29th at Natalie’s. \n \nUnMasked OH\, is a Columbus hard rock cover band focused on the 80’s era KISS hits. The idea for the band was conceived amidst the pulsing energy of a sold-out Watershed concert\, as founding members Chuck Oney\, Mike Lovins\, and Keith Jenkins raved about their shared adoration for the iconic 80’s KISS rock anthems. The group swiftly took form with the addition of heavy-hitting Dan Bell of Van Haken fame on drums and the electrifying prowess of lead guitarist Phil Stalter. DESCRIPTION:Soul Sunday at Natalie’s is held on the first Sunday of each month. Seating for The Gospel Show Brunch show begins at 1:30 pm\, with showtime at 2:30 pm presenting the best national and regional Gospel Artists in concert hosted by Debra James Tucker. The evening show\, hosted by Qamil\, features a variety of Soul bands. In addition to the regular menu\, enjoy a “Soul Food” special created just for this series! \nOctober’s Gospel Soul Brunch features Quan Howell – a native of Columbus Ohio\, and the son of Kathy (Howell) Harper and Joseph Thrower. His vocal gift was discovered at the early age of five when be began singing at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church where his grandfather\, the Rev. J.A. Thrower was the pastor. Encouraged by his family\, especially his late aunt\, Peggy Ann Garner\, and his Sunday School Teacher\, Carolyn Holmes he continued to sing and developed a love for hymns. Managed by his late Grandfather\, Quan spent his early years singing at local churches and with two local groups ‘The James Cleveland Youth Chapter’ and ‘The Allen Family.’ At the age of fourteen\, he recorded his first song\, ‘More Like Jesus’ with Ernest Carter.  When he was sixteen\, he decided to leave his family church and join\, ‘Bibleway Church of our Lord Jesus Christ ‘under the pastorship of Bishop Latta. It was there Quan received the Baptism of the Holy Spirit.  \nDuring his teenage years Quan sang with the ‘Resurrection Mass Choir’\, ‘The Revival Choir’ and formed his own group\, ‘Quan Howell Family and Friends’. He also was the first place winner of several talent shows. He graduated from Linden McKinley High School and Fort Hayes Performing Arts School where he majored in music theory\, jazz\, piano\, and show tunes. Dreaming of a gospel musical career\, he moved to Los Angeles only to return to Columbus a year later. He received his first professional break in 1995 when Darlene Furtel heard his demo and gave it to Assistant Director Billy Steele of the group\, ‘Sounds of Blackness’. It was during their college tour in Columbus that directors\, Gary Hines\, Billy Steele\, and other group members encouraged him to travel to Minneapolis and audition with famous producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis for the lead vocal in the group.                                                   \nAs the new lead singer of the\, ‘Sounds of Blackness\,’ Quan and the group recorded several hit songs\, ‘Hold on Change is Comin\,’ ‘Spirit\,’ and ‘God Cares.’ This opened up many opportunities for him to record and do background work with; Ann Nesby\, Rod Stewart\, Johnny Gill\, New Edition\, Salt ‘n’Pepa\, Kirk Franklin\, Tamela Mann and many other famous artist. Also\, he had the pleasure of recording movie soundtracks for\, ‘How Stella Got Her Groove Back\,’ ‘Down in the Delta\,’ ‘The Apostle’ and for acclaimed movie producers\, Andrew Lloyd Weber and Walt Disney. \nIn the late 1990s\, Quan decided to pursue his other passion\, the theater. Well known author\, director\, and producer\, Tyler Perry gave Quan his first theatrical performance opportunity. Mr. Perry gave him the chance to play the character\, ‘Rev. Lewis’ in Perry’s first play\, ‘I Know I’ve Been Changed.’ Quan continued to play in Perry’s hit plays\, ‘I Can Do Bad All by Myself’ and ‘Madea’s Family Reunion. \nFollowing a three year break from the entertainment business and a recommitment of his life to the Lord\, Quan became more involved in his local assembly. Under the leadership of Pastor Howard Tillman\, he became the Praise Leader for New Covenant Believers’ Church. \nHis desire to become an independent Christian artist gave birth to another new opportunity. In 2005 Quan Howell produced his first musical project\, “Simple Christmas” and several followed behind….Prophetess Taketa Williams “The Table Is Fixed; and his first freshman project\, “Things Will Get Better”. He has made numerous Television appearances on shows such as BET’s Sunday Best Season 6\, Lifetime Network reality show “Preach”\, TBN’s Praise The Lord and World Harvest’s 120 Live with Pastor Rod Parsley. So many opportunities that have come and Quan still has the energy and excitement to finish what God has allowed him to do. \nThe unique sound of vocalist Debra James Tucker is a product of extensive training in jazz\, classical and gospel music. She is the writer/performer of the one woman show Survival of the Boulevard Singer—winner of an Ohio Arts Council Award for Individual Excellence\, has been a visiting instructor at Denison University in the history of African American Gospel Music\, and an artist in residence with several youth arts organizations. \n  \nFood & Bar: Our full bar and a special brunch menu will be available before and during the show. Her combination of costume expertise\, consistent nod to history\, and classic dance and theatre background brings a captivating experience to her audience. She has shimmied across stages in NYC\, all around Ohio\, Indianapolis\, Memphis\, and even as far as Dublin and Cork\, Ireland. \n \nSince making her debut in San Diego in 2017\, Twirlisha Devine has performed\, featured\, headlined\, and competed all over the U.S. and internationally leaving a trail of glitter and fireworks wherever she goes. Robert is a pianist\, teacher\, and arranger from Columbus who graduated from OSU with a BM in Jazz Studies and a minor in Music\, Media and Enterprise. He has won numerous awards for jazz performance including the Louis Armstrong Award for outstanding musicians while still in high school. He also received several scholarships at OSU including the Atkin Jazz Scholarship\, Tom Battenberg Jazz Scholarship\, and the George and Janice Scantland Jazz Scholarship. Deuce n’ a Quarter have wowed not only the Columbus Blues Scene\, but around the country.   \nGen Blues\, a 614BluesEd youth band will open the show.  Gen Blues is an astonishingly good band of young people with incredible talent.
