DESCRIPTION:Soul Sunday at Natalie’s is held on the first Sunday of each month. Seating for The Gospel Show Brunch show begins at 1:30 pm\, with showtime at 2:30 pm presenting the best national and regional Gospel Artists in concert hosted by Debra James Tucker. The evening show\, hosted by Qamil\, features a variety of Soul bands. In addition to the regular menu\, enjoy a “Soul Food” special created just for this series! \nOctober’s Gospel Soul Brunch features Quan Howell – a native of Columbus Ohio\, and the son of Kathy (Howell) Harper and Joseph Thrower. His vocal gift was discovered at the early age of five when be began singing at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church where his grandfather\, the Rev. J.A. Thrower was the pastor. Encouraged by his family\, especially his late aunt\, Peggy Ann Garner\, and his Sunday School Teacher\, Carolyn Holmes he continued to sing and developed a love for hymns. Managed by his late Grandfather\, Quan spent his early years singing at local churches and with two local groups ‘The James Cleveland Youth Chapter’ and ‘The Allen Family.’ At the age of fourteen\, he recorded his first song\, ‘More Like Jesus’ with Ernest Carter.  When he was sixteen\, he decided to leave his family church and join\, ‘Bibleway Church of our Lord Jesus Christ ‘under the pastorship of Bishop Latta. It was there Quan received the Baptism of the Holy Spirit.  \nDuring his teenage years Quan sang with the ‘Resurrection Mass Choir’\, ‘The Revival Choir’ and formed his own group\, ‘Quan Howell Family and Friends’. He also was the first place winner of several talent shows. He graduated from Linden McKinley High School and Fort Hayes Performing Arts School where he majored in music theory\, jazz\, piano\, and show tunes. Dreaming of a gospel musical career\, he moved to Los Angeles only to return to Columbus a year later. He received his first professional break in 1995 when Darlene Furtel heard his demo and gave it to Assistant Director Billy Steele of the group\, ‘Sounds of Blackness’. It was during their college tour in Columbus that directors\, Gary Hines\, Billy Steele\, and other group members encouraged him to travel to Minneapolis and audition with famous producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis for the lead vocal in the group.                                                   \nAs the new lead singer of the\, ‘Sounds of Blackness\,’ Quan and the group recorded several hit songs\, ‘Hold on Change is Comin\,’ ‘Spirit\,’ and ‘God Cares.’ This opened up many opportunities for him to record and do background work with; Ann Nesby\, Rod Stewart\, Johnny Gill\, New Edition\, Salt ‘n’Pepa\, Kirk Franklin\, Tamela Mann and many other famous artist. Also\, he had the pleasure of recording movie soundtracks for\, ‘How Stella Got Her Groove Back\,’ ‘Down in the Delta\,’ ‘The Apostle’ and for acclaimed movie producers\, Andrew Lloyd Weber and Walt Disney. \nIn the late 1990s\, Quan decided to pursue his other passion\, the theater. Well known author\, director\, and producer\, Tyler Perry gave Quan his first theatrical performance opportunity. Mr. Perry gave him the chance to play the character\, ‘Rev. Lewis’ in Perry’s first play\, ‘I Know I’ve Been Changed.’ Quan continued to play in Perry’s hit plays\, ‘I Can Do Bad All by Myself’ and ‘Madea’s Family Reunion. \nFollowing a three year break from the entertainment business and a recommitment of his life to the Lord\, Quan became more involved in his local assembly. Under the leadership of Pastor Howard Tillman\, he became the Praise Leader for New Covenant Believers’ Church. \nHis desire to become an independent Christian artist gave birth to another new opportunity. In 2005 Quan Howell produced his first musical project\, “Simple Christmas” and several followed behind….Prophetess Taketa Williams “The Table Is Fixed; and his first freshman project\, “Things Will Get Better”. He has made numerous Television appearances on shows such as BET’s Sunday Best Season 6\, Lifetime Network reality show “Preach”\, TBN’s Praise The Lord and World Harvest’s 120 Live with Pastor Rod Parsley. So many opportunities that have come and Quan still has the energy and excitement to finish what God has allowed him to do. \nThe unique sound of vocalist Debra James Tucker is a product of extensive training in jazz\, classical and gospel music. She is the writer/performer of the one woman show Survival of the Boulevard Singer—winner of an Ohio Arts Council Award for Individual Excellence\, has been a visiting instructor at Denison University in the history of African American Gospel Music\, and an artist in residence with several youth arts organizations. \n  \nFood & Bar: Our full bar and a special brunch menu will be available before and during the show. Her combination of costume expertise\, consistent nod to history\, and classic dance and theatre background brings a captivating experience to her audience. She has shimmied across stages in NYC\, all around Ohio\, Indianapolis\, Memphis\, and even as far as Dublin and Cork\, Ireland. \n \nSince making her debut in San Diego in 2017\, Twirlisha Devine has performed\, featured\, headlined\, and competed all over the U.S. and internationally leaving a trail of glitter and fireworks wherever she goes. This monthly series\, held on the second Wednesday of each month\, will include a special guest for each show\, and there will be rotating bourbon and other happy hour specials as well!   \nOctober’s special guest is Gavin Stroup\,  a musician since the age of six.  His great grandfather\, Bob Stroup\, was a famous Jazz Trombonist.  He is part of a multi-generational musical family.  Gavin first picked the guitar at the age of six to play in his school’s talent show.   Since then\,  his natural ability and love of music has allowed him to branch out into other instruments such as Mandolin\, Bass Guitar\, Drums and Piano.   His love of all genres of music such as Blues\, Folk\, Americana\, Classic Rock n’ Roll and Bluegrass makes him a well-rounded musician and only at the age of fourteen!   \nYou can catch Gavin on two YouTube Channels and Instagram. SUMMARY:The Currys
DESCRIPTION:The Currys return to Natalie’s to celebrate the release of their 4th full length album\, Keepers. \nThe Currys have been staking their claim within the Americana music scene since 2013\, when vocalist/guitarist Tommy Curry quit his teaching job and moved to Charlottesville\, Virginia\, to join the harmony-based folk-rock outfit newly formed by brother Jimmy Curry (vocals\, guitar) and cousin Galen Curry (vocals\, bass). The band\, who cut their teeth playing the oyster bars and listening rooms of the Florida Panhandle\, has since written and released two full-length albums: their studio debut Follow (2014)\, called “eye-opening\, but warmly familiar” by Earmilk\, and whose title track is “one of the most beautiful pieces of music I’ve ever heard” (Todd Moe of NCPR); and sophomore effort West of Here (2016)\, with its “tight-as-a-rubber-band” harmonies and “infectious” songwriting (PopMatters). \nFor their third album\, This Side of the Glass (2019)\, The Currys teamed up with producer/guitarist Sam Whedon and engineer Stewart Myers (Jason Mraz\, Parachute) to map new terrain. As ever\, the band’s three-part family harmonies provide the organic\, lived-in feel of roots music\, but the album aspires to a greater variety of form and orchestration than earlier releases. The songs defy any neat categorization: the country nostalgia of “Gulf Coast Home” complements the folk-pop sensibility of “Pin You Down\,” while the guitars and gang vocals of “Soon Enough” pay unmistakable homage to Paul Simon’s “Graceland.” \nLyrically\, This Side of the Glass explores questions of perspective\, an apt consideration for a band featuring three songwriters. Each Curry offers his take on the time-worn threads of life and love\, contributing to the album’s tapestry of introspection and social commentary. Likewise\, each in turn ruminates on the paradox faced by every performing songwriter: how to balance one’s roles as both the author of stories and the object of storytelling. This Side of the Glass is an insightful and satisfying new chapter from a band with many more stories to tell. \nFood & Bar: Our full food and drink menu will be available before and during the show. \n

DESCRIPTION: Like only the most insightful songwriters\, Austin Plaine draws intense emotion from the subtlest moments. On his sophomore album Stratford\, the Minnesota-bred\, Nashville-based musician shapes his lyrical storytelling with both precision and pure feeling\, capturing every nuance of lost love and longing and fractured innocence. And while Stratford is steeped in a warm nostalgia\, Plaine instills each song with a quiet optimism that speaks to bravely moving forward\, even in troubled times.\n\nProduced by Jay Foote and mixed by Steve Vealey (M. Ward\, Phoenix\, Hurray for the Riff Raff) at the legendary Electric Lady Studios\, Stratford arrives as the follow-up to Plaine’s self-titled debut—a 2015 release that earned comparisons to Bob Dylan and Conor Oberst from Baeble Music. In a departure from that more stripped-down effort\, Plaine assembled a full-fledged band who recorded in an apartment in Brooklyn\, infusing Stratford with a homegrown feel and loose yet kinetic energy. \nTaking its title from the Flatbush street where the album came to life\, Stratford offers a classically arranged take on folk-rock that illuminates the intimacy of Plaine’s vocal work and the graceful candor of his lyrics. From track to track\, the 27-year-old singer/guitarist reveals a refined sense of songcraft that he partly credits to moving to Nashville from his hometown of Minneapolis in early 2017. “Being part of a whole community of songwriters\, you realize there’s a lot of different directions you can take a song\,” he says. “It’s really opened me up as a writer\, and it’s also helped me to hone in on every word of every line that I write.” \nWith its abundance of indelible images—night trains and the Northern Lights\, backyard camping and drive-in romance—Stratford also bears a richness of detail that hints at the literary and cinematic influence behind Plaine’s songwriting. “People tend to think my songs are personal because I sing in the first person\, but often it’s very observational for me\,” says Plaine\, who names Alexandre Dumas and Henry Miller among his inspirations. “I’m learning to understand new philosophies of life\, love\, and death”\, attributing his passion for reading has helped him attain a better sense of his surroundings. \nProving the emotional depth of Plaine’s artistry\, Stratford opens with the wistful reminiscence of “Something More” (a steel-guitar-laced track “like a movie I’ve seen before / way back when / we were something more” sings Plaine in the chorus)\, then slips into the bittersweet\, burned-but-not-broken ache of “What Kind of Fool” (a rollicking\, country-tinged number co-written with Sixpence None the Richer’s Leigh Nash and Stephen Wilson). Later\, on “Lucky Ones”\, Plaine presents a more hopeful portrait unconditional love\, with singer/songwriter Soren Bryce lending her vocals to the chorus’s bright and beautiful harmonies. \n \nMichael Dunton\, known professionally as M.Dunton\, is a singer-songwriter and guitarist out of East Nashville\, TN. His work combines flavors of indie rock and alt-country\, with a unique and timeless approach to songwriting that allows him to exist in a world of his own. He was born in San Francisco and grew up in Coeur d’Alene\, Idaho\, where he discovered two primary loves at an early age: music and running. He grew up running the trails of Northern Idaho with embryonic formations of songs in his head and spent his teenage summers working as a rafting guide in Missoula\, Montana\, where he was free to explore nature by day and write songs on the Lozeau Quartz trestle bridge by night. After graduating from Boise State University\, he left the Northwest for Nashville to pursue his passion for the guitar. While working as a hired gun guitarist\, he continues to create his own lane as an artist. “I write music to express sensations I cannot put into words\, arranged around songs that I can grow old with and sing forever.” He collaborated with Steven Cooper and Owen Beverly of Indianola on his debut releases\, including his 2023 Lonely Neighbors EP. A bluesy blast of baritone bombast.  Equally versed in two glorious worlds\, Rock and Roll – with a strong side of Outlaw Country. He is a force on tour and a tour de force. He is the last of the Full Grown Men and Roots Rock Royalty. \nA native of Hattiesburg\, Wilder’s 1986 debut album\, It Came from Nashville\, was named one of the 50 Best Southern Rock Albums of All-Time by Paste Magazine in 2018.  Webb was honored to participate in Shemekia Copeland’s recent Grammy nominated LP “Uncivil War” co-writing and performing on the track “She Don’t Wear Pink.”  Webb’s engaging personality led him to become one of America’s first Satellite DJs on XM Radio.  He’s now a DJ and the host of the Americana Countdown show on WMOT radio/Nashville as well as continuing his three decade career as an Electrifying Artist on stages worldwide.  His newest and 11th release is “Night Without Love” on Landslide Records. \nFood & Bar: Our full food and drink menu will be available before and during the show.
