SUMMARY:Gospel Soul Brunch: Paisha Thomas and Bobby Floyd
DESCRIPTION:Bobby Floyd and Paisha Thomas present\, Testimony Service. We’re heading back to our Black Church roots where musicians learned to play in every key\, thanks to what we call Testimony Service. Testimony service is about people in the congregation telling stories of overcoming trials\, receiving blessings despite their many challenges\, and singing gospel music rich with emotion and perseverance. Just like with the Blues\, when you sing these uplifting gospel songs\, your trials seem to melt away and you find “your help”. Joined by Debra James Tucker and Karen Hewitt\, for the gospel harmonies we grew up on\, and the band Tyrone Collier on bass and Reggie Jackson on drums.  \nThe unique sound of vocalist Debra James Tucker is a product of extensive training in jazz\, classical and gospel music. She is the writer/performer of the one woman show Survival of the Boulevard Singer—winner of an Ohio Arts Council Award for Individual Excellence\, has been a visiting instructor at Denison University in the history of African American Gospel Music\, and an artist in residence with several youth arts organizations. \nSoul Sunday at Natalie’s is held on the first Sunday of each month. Seating for The Gospel Show Brunch show begins at 1:30 pm\, with showtime at 2:30 pm presenting the best national and regional Gospel Artists in concert hosted by Debra James Tucker. The evening show\, hosted by Qamil\, features a variety of Soul bands. In addition to the regular menu\, enjoy a “Soul Food” special created just for this series! \nFood & Bar: Our full bar and a special brunch menu will be available before and during the show. Our kitchen will close from 4pm-5pm to prepare for our evening dining service.

SUMMARY:The Suitcase Junket
DESCRIPTION:Matt Lorenz’s vision\, manifest in The Suitcase Junket\, developed in the tension between the grand and the solitary. Grand in its imagery\, sound\, and staging. Solitary in its thrift and self-reliance. What instruments he requires\, Lorenz builds from scratch and salvage. What parts five players would perform\, he performs alone. The spectacle of his one-man set bears constant comparison to legends of showmanship\, brilliance\, madness\, and invention. \nWhile audiences are captivated by his solitary form and the show itself\, Lorenz\, who homesteads with rescue dogs and chickens in rural Western Massachusetts\, is most serious about the songs. He has been building a catalog\, writing a world into existence. Solitary on stage and on the road\, his mind is crowded with characters\, narratives\, voices\, imagery\, sounds as wide and varied as mountain throat singers and roadhouse juke boxes\, plus newsreels of the planet’s destruction and salvage. \nWith his 2020 release\, The End is New\, Lorenz’s grand vision for the song overrides the how of it. The End is New is Lorenz’s sixth full-length album as The Suitcase Junket\, his first for Renew Records/BMG.  The sound has become more refined and deeper with each release. Lorenz tours extensively and plans to be back on the road for a waylaid release tour for The End is New in 2021. Lorenz is also a visual artist. In the early years he designed all The Suitcase Junket album art and merchandise and made the music videos generated with his songs. He continues to create the visuals for merchandise\, and to produce some of his videos\, now with collaborators. He gets very excited about coffee\, gardening\, bees\, dogs\, birds\, mushrooms\, tinctures\, making his own wine and maple sugaring season. \nFood & Bar: Our full food and drink menu will be available before and during the show.

DESCRIPTION:Natalie’s Grandview presents Bobby Floyd performing on the classic Hammond B3 organ with his Trio on Charlie’s Stage. For this Happy Hour show\, there will be no admission charge\, but tips are greatly appreciated. Floyd\, a Grammy nominee in 2020\, will perform with Derek DiCenzo on guitar and bass\, and Reggie Jackson on drums. Members of the group add just the right mix of talent and experience to create the elements necessary to produce an appealing sound that goes well beyond live entertainment. \n  \nThe passion with which Floyd plays piano\, organ and keyboards are the result of his natural ability discovered at the age of two\, his love of music\, and years of practice. Whether performing jazz or gospel\, as a soloist\, with a trio or big band\, his feel is unique and inspirational leading him to many distinguished appearances around the world. Bobby has performed extensively in the U.S.\, Canada\, Europe and Japan. Touring events include major jazz festivals\, concert halls\, and numerous night clubs with Ray Charles\, Jeff Tyzik\, The Legendary Count Basie Orchestra\, Dr. John and Byron Stripling..
