On Mfantsipim school campus in Ghana\, Mark was a ‘foreign’ student blessed to absorb some of the language and culture of Ghana. From Ghana he came straight to college at Otterbein in Westerville – which was an even more foreign experience – but Columbus became home\, and Mark has lived and performed in Ohio ever since. \nMark is the lead singer of The ARK Band. DESCRIPTION:Much has changed for singer-songwriter Alice Peacock since her last solo studio album\, 2009’s Love Remains. She’s had three kids\, moved to Cincinnati and … gotten 10 years older. “Feel the weight of the world on my shoulders/ Am I wiser or am I just older?” she sings on “Dry Spell\,” from her new collection\, Minnesota. The record suggests that despite her “wondering what all is yet to be\,” she has indeed attained a measure of wisdom. \nShe uses the word “midlife” but does not follow it by “crisis.” She views her current outlook more as an awareness of life’s fragility and an appreciation of its sweetness. “Being a parent\, I don’t know that I could love any more than I do right now\,” she says\, “so I’ve also never been more vulnerable. I have everything to lose.” \nFurther evidence of this contemplative spirit can be heard on album closer “God Be Near Me\,” about which Peacock says\, “I wrote a hymn out of nowhere! I was sitting at the piano one day going\, ‘Am I completely screwing this all up?’ And I found myself thinking\, ‘Help me to stay focused on love.’” The lyrics ask\, “Help me to surrender/ And love the world the way you do/ Now and ever after/ And live in love the way you do.” \nOn Minnesota\, Peacock explores an understanding of love\, in particular\, that transcends hearts and flowers\, Sturm und Drang. “Resting in the Quiet” acknowledges “a glimpse of the divine” in unspoken eloquence: “We don’t have to talk about it/ We don’t have to say a word/ We can wrap ourselves in silence/ Cause I’ve already heard/ Everything your eyes are saying.” \nA departure from romantic love\, “Free and Wild” is a lullaby sung from the point of view of someone “with a love so fierce” it hurts. Peacock likens parenthood to “going through life with your heart outside your body.” \nThe album’s title track is a love song to her home state\, where her family spends their summers. “I’ve lived in Illinois and Tennessee and now Ohio and I love them all\, but there’s something about home … As soon as I get back to Minnesota and hear the birds and smell the air\, I feel\, ‘This is mine; this is me.’” In the song she recalls sitting in “sacred silence\,” watching “the electric light show playing wide across the sky.” \n“Things feel very sacred to me at this time in my life\,” Peacock confides. “You reach an age where you begin to lose people. In 2003\, Rolling Stone Magazine hailed them as a band on the rise\, while Manda was voted as one of the Top 100 Women in Rock by the readers of UK magazine – Miss Minx. Manda has shared the stage with celebrated musicians such as Elvis Costello\, Billy Bob Thornton\, Phantom Planet\, and the Killers\, among others. \nManda’s musical compositions have been featured in various motion pictures\, including the low-budget thriller Creepies (2003) and the 1980s-style movie Nail Polish (2006). Additionally\, her music has been showcased on MTV’s reality series Rich Girls\, and the band’s branding and name were displayed in the film Come Away Home (2005). \nOver the years\, Manda’s music style has gravitated towards an acoustic and folk-influenced sound\, while still incorporating a pop sensibility. Their rhythm section grooves solidly with Bill Patrick -guitar\, Jeff Plavcan- bass and Los Giles- drums. They are currently promoting their full length album “Time” which was released in April 2023.   \nHeather Redman & The Reputation  \nHeather Redman isn’t new to the southern Ohio music scene and has long been respected for her frequent role as a co-vocalist\, co-front person\, guitarist\, and percussionist. DESCRIPTION:The Gospel Soul Brunch Series returns to Natalie’s with special guest Marvin Miller\, Jr. Hosted by Debra James Tucker on the first Sunday of each month\, the series will be part of the return of “Soul Sunday” at Natalie’s\, which will include an evening soul music show hosted by Paisha Thomas. \nMarvin Miller Jr was a former member of the billboard charting and Stellar award nominated gospel group Men of God’s Heart\, and recently stepped out on his own as a solo artist. Marvin has recorded as a background vocalist on several albums in the gospel\, R&B and pop field and appeared in 33 gospel stage plays over the last 25 years. In addition to his music career\, he is now an advocate for organ donations as a kidney transplant recipient. Above all\, it is Marvin’s desire to always make the Lord smile with his gift and can never take the gift for granted \nThe unique sound of vocalist Debra James Tucker is a product of extensive training in jazz\, classical and gospel music. She is the writer/performer of the one woman show Survival of the Boulevard Singer—winner of an Ohio Arts Council Award for Individual Excellence\, has been visiting instructor at Denison University in the history of African American Gospel Music\, and an artist in residence with several youth arts organizations. \nSoul Sunday at Natalie’s is held on the first Sunday of each month and starts with a delicious Brunch from 11 am until 1 pm with no admission fee. Seating for The Gospel Show Brunch show begins at 1:30 pm\, with showtime at 2:30 pm presenting the best national and regional Gospel Artists in concert. The evening show\, hosted by Paisha Thomas\, features a variety of Soul bands. DESCRIPTION:Natalie’s Grandview presents the Anthony Saxson Freedom Quartet on Charlie’s Stage.  \nAnthony Jackson is a Tenor Saxophonist\, private music instructor\, and band leader.  He is the leader and co-founder of Blue Avenue as well as the Anthony Jackson Quartet.  He is 27 years old and has been playing on the Columbus Music Scene professionally for over 10 years.  The saxophonist for fo/mo/deep\, led by bassist Ron Homes\, he was fortunate to open for 4-time Grammy Award Winning Artist Robert Glasper at The Jazz and Rib Fest this year.  Anthony loves to play and enjoys the experience of growing through the bands he leads and is affiliated with. DESCRIPTION:CLAVE SONIC is a Latin-Jazz-Fusion trio featuring long time Grandview Heights resident Dean Marcellana on keyboard\, Bradley Mellen on Electric Cello and Nathan Parker on drums and percussion.  The group combines intelligent original songwriting\, with infectious Latin and funk grooves to create an exciting\, captivating\, and entertaining experience for listeners. \nClave Sonic brings their high octane groove-based jazz set reminiscent of the sounds of Medeski\, Martin and Wood meets Chick Corea and Stevie Wonder\, mixed with the montuno and tumbao rhythms of early Afro-Cuban music. The Latin jazz influence in the band’s music comes from composer and pianist Dean Marcellana\, who spent many years in the Boston area performing with some of the top jazz and Latin jazz musicians in the city. That experience paved the way for a variety of original compositions rooted in jazz and R&B\, with a “Latin” feel\, hence the band’s inclusion of “Clave” in the name.
