DESCRIPTION:The Currys return to Natalie’s to celebrate the release of their 4th full length album\, Keepers. \nThe Currys have been staking their claim within the Americana music scene since 2013\, when vocalist/guitarist Tommy Curry quit his teaching job and moved to Charlottesville\, Virginia\, to join the harmony-based folk-rock outfit newly formed by brother Jimmy Curry (vocals\, guitar) and cousin Galen Curry (vocals\, bass). The band\, who cut their teeth playing the oyster bars and listening rooms of the Florida Panhandle\, has since written and released two full-length albums: their studio debut Follow (2014)\, called “eye-opening\, but warmly familiar” by Earmilk\, and whose title track is “one of the most beautiful pieces of music I’ve ever heard” (Todd Moe of NCPR); and sophomore effort West of Here (2016)\, with its “tight-as-a-rubber-band” harmonies and “infectious” songwriting (PopMatters). \nFor their third album\, This Side of the Glass (2019)\, The Currys teamed up with producer/guitarist Sam Whedon and engineer Stewart Myers (Jason Mraz\, Parachute) to map new terrain. As ever\, the band’s three-part family harmonies provide the organic\, lived-in feel of roots music\, but the album aspires to a greater variety of form and orchestration than earlier releases. The songs defy any neat categorization: the country nostalgia of “Gulf Coast Home” complements the folk-pop sensibility of “Pin You Down\,” while the guitars and gang vocals of “Soon Enough” pay unmistakable homage to Paul Simon’s “Graceland.” \nLyrically\, This Side of the Glass explores questions of perspective\, an apt consideration for a band featuring three songwriters. Each Curry offers his take on the time-worn threads of life and love\, contributing to the album’s tapestry of introspection and social commentary. He’s made records for Capitol as a solo artist and with the band SKO.  His songs and performances are funny\, warm and inspiring. \nParker MacDonell is a veteran of the LA club scene and college student unions across the US. He has shared the stage with Chuck Berry\, Bo Diddley\, Mary Travers and Christine Lavin. He’s a pioneer in the Columbus music scene\, including a founder of Six String Concerts. His CD releases are Home to the Heart\, and Looking for You. \nKeith’s song\, “Hold On\,” won the People’s Choice Award in the Nashville Songwriters Association International/Country Music Television songwriting competition. He is a two-time selection to Songwriter Serenade\, finishing as a finalist and semi-finalist. DESCRIPTION:Bobby Floyd and Paisha Thomas present\, Testimony Service. We’re heading back to our Black Church roots where musicians learned to play in every key\, thanks to what we call Testimony Service. Testimony service is about people in the congregation telling stories of overcoming trials\, receiving blessings despite their many challenges\, and singing gospel music rich with emotion and perseverance. Just like with the Blues\, when you sing these uplifting gospel songs\, your trials seem to melt away and you find “your help”. Joined by Debra James Tucker and Karen Hewitt\, for the gospel harmonies we grew up on\, and the band Tyrone Collier on bass and Reggie Jackson on drums.  \nThe unique sound of vocalist Debra James Tucker is a product of extensive training in jazz\, classical and gospel music. She is the writer/performer of the one woman show Survival of the Boulevard Singer—winner of an Ohio Arts Council Award for Individual Excellence\, has been a visiting instructor at Denison University in the history of African American Gospel Music\, and an artist in residence with several youth arts organizations. \nSoul Sunday at Natalie’s is held on the first Sunday of each month. Seating for The Gospel Show Brunch show begins at 1:30 pm\, with showtime at 2:30 pm presenting the best national and regional Gospel Artists in concert hosted by Debra James Tucker. The evening show\, hosted by Qamil\, features a variety of Soul bands. A successful solo artist\, collaborator\, and songwriter (with songs recorded by Alan Jackson\, John Prine\, Emmylou Harris\, and many more)\, Kieran is a musician’s musician: his playing is always understated\, always groove-oriented\, and always serving the song.\n\nIf Rayna Gellert seems a preternaturally gifted songwriter\, it’s because she’s seen farther into the old songs than most. Growing up in a musical family\, she turned to Appalachian old-time music at a young age\, becoming a prodigious fiddler and leading a new revival of American stringband music through her work with the acclaimed roots band Uncle Earl. An in-demand collaborator\, she has toured and recorded with artists such as Scott Miller\, Abigail Washburn\, Toubab Krewe\, and Robyn Hitchcock.\n\nKieran and Rayna first met\, fittingly\, at San Francisco’s celebrated Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival\, which led to their cowriting songs for Kieran’s solo album Unguarded Moments (Dead Reckoning). They joined forces again for Rayna’s 2017 release\, Workin’s Too Hard (StorySound Records)\, which they also co-produced. Their first duo album\, The Ledges\, was released in February of 2018 on Dead Reckoning Records\, followed up quickly by 2019’s When the Sun Goes Down. \nNow\, in 2022\, this “unlikely musical couple” have released The Flowers That Bloom in Spring\, which finds the duo digging deeper into their exploration of minimalist writing and recording. \nFans of either artist will recognize the musical kindred-spiritedness in their restrained and roots-oriented approach to both songs and arrangements. \nFood & Bar: Our full food and drink menu will be available before and during the show.

As a child\, he thought all parents were musicians\, as his father “going to work” meant performing shows for adoring fans and writing songs. Tommy learned to play guitar by watching his father play\, copying the ways his fingers moved and inadvertently developing his own singular style. Summers in Ireland lent their own inspiration\, as did 10 straight years camping at Bonnaroo. Prine’s musical tastes grew to become decidedly eclectic\, spanning John Mayer\, Outkast\, Bon Iver\, the Strokes and more.\n\nIt wasn’t until Prine reached his mid-twenties\, though\, that he considered a career of his own in music and began to share with others the songs he wrote in private.
